Description:

La Pigeade Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise 2025 is a sweet fortified Muscat from the southern Rhône Valley, made from Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains and bottled in a 375mL half. Grapey, floral and unashamedly sweet, it carries its sugar lightly thanks to a clean line of acidity and a warming spirit lift.

The nose is all fresh Muscat: orange blossom, white peach, crushed grapes and a squeeze of mandarin peel, with a faint honeyed edge behind. On the palate there is nectarine, lychee and rosewater, sweet but bright rather than syrupy, the fruit tasting picked rather than cooked.

Fermentation is arrested with grape spirit while the natural sugar is still high, and that shows in the texture — silky and rounded through the middle, then finishing with a gentle alcoholic warmth that keeps the sweetness in check. The finish is long and citrus-tinged, leaving the mouth surprisingly refreshed.

Serve it well chilled with fruit tarts, poached stone fruit, crème brûlée, or a plate of blue cheese and almonds. It also makes a fine aperitif over ice with a twist of orange, and the 375mL format suits two people finishing a meal without committing to a full bottle — handy for a midweek dessert, a gift, or a cheese course for a small table.

Drink this Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise young, over the next two to three years, while the floral top notes are at their freshest. Bear in mind a half bottle ages faster than a 750mL, so there is no reason to wait.
