PARINGA ESTATE

The first vines were planted at the Paringa Estate vineyard in 1985 with ten acres being under vine by 1990. The vineyard is set in the classic cool climate sub-region of Red Hill at an altitude of 146m. Founder, Lindsay McCall, still tends to the vineyard characterized by its distinctive Lyre or ‘U’ trellis system which sits on an elaborate steel frame assembly.

VINEYARD NOTES

Despite extreme heat over the Black Saturday period the 2009 growing season was cooler than recent vintages. Small berry size resulted in yields 20-30% lower than average but provided fruit of great concentration. Berries were de-stemmed (100%) and fermented in two-tonne open fermenters. Maturation took place over the next 18 months in French Oak barrels, 30% being new.

WINE NOTES

A classic Paringa Estate Shiraz balancing restraint and power. Blackcurrant pastille, raspberry licorice, a hint of tobacco, spice and a redcurrant lift on the nose. The palate has a generous black fruit core supported by an abundance of fine grained tannins and acid line
